THE DON’TS OF BACK TO SCHOOL MAKEUP

For students, going back to school is one of the most exciting events of the year. It’s an opportunity to showcase any new looks or styles that you experimented with in the summer. This could include anything from a new wardrobe to a new haircut, hair color, or makeup! Whether you’re rocking the same look as last year or trying something new, there are a few things to keep in mind when applying makeup for school.Last week, we discussed a few makeup tips that we recommend for back to school makeup. To review, do your best to keep your makeup as natural-looking as possible, use peachy and neutral shades on your eyes to brighten up your look, choose products that will last throughout all of your classes and activities, fill in your eyebrows just enough to make them look even and full, and opt for matte lips. Now that we’ve discussed the Do’s of Back to School Makeup, let’s take some time to go over a few practices to try to stay away from.

Don’ts – Makeup Tips & Tricks

As professional hair and makeup artists, we see makeup as a form of art that is an expression of one’s individual style. Hence, we do not believe in placing restrictions on the way that anyone chooses to wear their makeup. However, as with any other art medium, there are certain tips and makeup techniques that can be used to perfect the end result.

Wear loud colors

While we’re all for standing out, bright eye shadow combinations can be a bit too distracting during a school day. However, this does not mean that bright colors should be eliminated from your makeup look completely. Use colored eyeliner or a bright lip stain to add a pop of color in smaller proportions. This will draw attention to your natural facial features, rather than divert attention from them.

Wear too much

In general, wearing too much makeup is a big no-no – even for makeup artists. It can feel heavy, uncomfortable, and makes you look much older than you really are. Regarding school makeup specifically, wearing a lot of makeup means more time in the mirror in the morning, which shortens your beauty sleep and could make you repeatedly late for class, and before bed as it takes much longer to remove all of it. Also, as it sits, heavy makeup can become very “cakey” just a few hours into your school day. Stick to applying just a few products for the most natural look possible. If you prefer heavier coverage in your foundation, there are many options with a light formula that provides a flawless finish.

Forget about skincare

After a long school day and evening of homework, it’s easy to be tempted to just slip into bed without removing your makeup. However, this can be extremely detrimental to the health and appearance of your skin – especially for those who are acne-prone. Be sure to keep up a skincare routine in the morning and evening with whatever products you find works best for your skin. Don’t forget about moisturizing your face for a healthy, youthful glow.

Professional Makeup Artist: “Stay true to yourself”

In conclusion, the biggest thing to remember about school makeup is that you want to look like yourself. While makeup is a great way to enhance your favorite features and camouflage your flaws, you shouldn’t look like a completely different person with it on. Use makeup to highlight your natural beauty rather than hiding or distracting from it.

We wish all Dallas students a beautiful and successful 2018-2019 school year!
