THE DO’S OF BACK TO SCHOOL MAKEUP

It’s that time of year again! Students all over the country are preparing for their first days of school or have already begun classes depending on their state and school district or university. No matter if you’re a college student or still in high school, the beginning of a new school year is a very exciting time. Not only is it a new beginning academically, but it is also the time when many people debut a new trend, look, or style. Along with great ambitions for great grades, it’s not uncommon for students to set health and beauty goals, as well.

While it’s wonderful to want to look your best at school, you don’t want it to be a hindrance to your academic performance. Ideally, your beauty routine should be simple, easy, and hassle-free. That being said, there’s no reason why you can’t be both studious and look (and feel) like a rock star. Here are a few makeup tips that will help you look your best while acing every exam and assignment of the school year.

Do’s – Makeup Tips & Tricks

Ideally, school makeup should amplify your natural features to make you look fresh and awake while staying true to your personal style. As professional hair and makeup artists, we use many different makeup techniques that are commonly requested; however, we customize every look to fit the individual personality of each client. The same goes for back to school makeup. These are merely guidelines with which you can build the foundation of a makeup look that is unique and special.

Keep things natural

A good night’s rest is extremely important to both your appearance and brain function. The last thing you want to do is have to wake up at 5 am to complete an extensive beauty routine. A great way to minimize your time in front of the mirror and maximize your beauty sleep is to keep your makeup simple and natural. Whatever products you apply to your face, keep it light. A heavy face of makeup could end up looking “cakey” and feeling grimy after an 8-hour school day. Keeping your makeup simple also helps you avoid looking overdone. Lightweight foundations, powders, and BB creams are all great to wear during the school year.

Brighten it up

While sleep is important, it can feel like a luxury on some nights during the school year. We’ve all been there – pulling an all-nighter to finish up a project, paper, or to study for a big exam. Puffy eyes and dark circles are telltale signs of a lack of sleep. To keep your eyes from announcing your all-nighter to the rest of the school, apply peach and neutral shades on your eyes to instantly brighten them. If you have dark circles, a little concealer can go a long way to cover them up and make you look wide awake. (Just don’t forget the caffeine!)

Choose long-lasting products

After a long day at school, makeup can wear off if not designed for extended wear – especially foundation. Look for foundations that are made to last for 12 hours or more. This is usually advertised on the packaging itself. Find a makeup artist website with reviews of different brands and products to help you narrow it down to the right one for your skin. Once you’ve found a foundation that you like, be sure to apply a sheer powder to keep it matte all day. The combination of a long-lasting foundation and sheer powder will keep you focused in class rather than running back and forth to the restroom to touch up your makeup.

Give your eyebrows some love

If there’s one beauty trend we love most lately, it’s defined brows. If eyes are the windows to the soul, eyebrows are the window frames. To keep your eyebrows “on fleek” all school year, use a pencil to fill in any gaps. The pencil should be two shades lighter for dark hair or two shades darker for lighter hair. Be sure to use gentle, soft strokes to keep them looking as natural as possible.

Opt for matte lips

Not only are matte lips extremely trendy currently, they are also great for creating a natural, long-lasting school look. Glide on a lip stain in your favorite shade in the morning and you won’t have to reapply anything to your lips again until after school. Most major makeup brands carry matte lipsticks, as well, which also look great and last long.

Now that you know the Do’s of back to school makeup, you can experiment with different colors and products to customize a look that is suitable for your skin and style.
